In a comment to the ElitExpert agency, the well-known Odesa lawyer Artem Grushansky talked about the possibilities of legal protection for Ukrainians who have become victims of war crimes, including shelling, damage to property, sexual crimes and other violations caused by the war.
"If we look at things realistically, we can state that in this case it is very difficult to bring the guilty to justice, because this is possible only if Russia extradites its war criminals, and then they will be tried and punished," the lawyer noted.
However, according to Grushanskyi, the victims should go to court, submit all the necessary documents and demand moral and material compensation from Russia.
"Then you can present an executive document for execution in Europe, where a lot of Russian property has been seized - from yachts of oligarchs to real estate, and there they will find a way to recover this damage from Russia," explained the lawyer.
The lawyer also emphasized that the executive service in Europe works much more efficiently than in Ukraine.
"If the court decision is in hand, they will quickly find the property of the Russian Federation from which compensation can be collected," he added.
Artem Hrushanskyi also expressed the opinion that after the war, Europe will probably decide to confiscate frozen Russian assets in order to cover the losses caused by Russia.
"With the destruction that Russia has brought, billions of dollars will not be enough, trillions will be needed. Russia will pay the contribution for decades, as Germany paid until 1991," concluded the lawyer.
According to Hrushansky, the consequences for Russia will be long-lasting: "And then the next generations will work for the rest of their lives to compensate for the damage to Ukraine and Europe. As they say, what they fought for..."
