Russia responded to the G7 statement regarding a complete embargo on the export of goods

Against the background of the strengthening of sanctions against Russia, in connection with the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Federation announced that a complete ban on exports from Western countries could worsen the economic situation in the world. This statement was made by Putin's press secretary Dmytro Peskov, noting at the same time that the ban on the export of goods to Russia will provoke a "world economic crisis."

Commenting on the plans of the G7 to impose a complete ban on exports to the Russian Federation, Peskov said: "The current sanctions that have been imposed against our country, and the new additional steps that Brussels and Washington may be thinking about now, will, of course, hit the world economy as well. Therefore, it can only lead to an increasing trend towards a global economic crisis."

At the same time, Peskov admitted that no country in the world has ever faced so many sanctions as Russia.

"It should not be forgotten that no country in the world has ever faced such a volume of sanctions as we ... take into account the dangers that are hidden behind such plans," Peskov said.

On April 20, information appeared that the G7 countries are ready to introduce a complete ban on exports to Russia. This idea is connected with the fact that some countries continue to export large volumes of goods to the Russian Federation.

Bloomberg, referring to sources familiar with the matter, wrote that officials of the "Big Seven" countries are discussing this idea ahead of the summit of the leaders of these states, which will be held in Japan in May. The aim is to involve the countries of the European Union in such pressure. The idea is still under discussion and may change.

According to the sources, the proposed approach would completely change the existing sanctions regime, banning all exports except for stipulated exceptions. The existing criteria allow any export, except when it is subject to sanctions.

If the G7 leaders approve the move at the summit, then it will be necessary to agree exactly what will be included in the list of exclusions. It was reported that medicines and agricultural products, including food, are likely to enter it.
