The first retail network in Ukraine refused to use plastic balls at cash registers

Recently, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on a complete ban on plastic bags.

Auchan Retail Ukraine chain completely refuses plastic balls at cash registers.

Auchan now offers customers reusable shopping bags and kraft paper bags at checkouts. In addition, the retail network is switching to secondary raw materials - starting from July 2021, all stores of the network will offer bags made of 100% recycled plastic for purchases weighing 5, 7 and 10 kg at the price of ordinary bags.

The company notes that the package does not require special storage conditions — after its use, it can be recycled again and so up to five times. It also "does not require a mandatory temperature regime, as, for example, composting bags, which can decompose for up to 20 years if all the necessary conditions are not met."

Also, Auchan assures, a bag made of 100% recycled plastic does not contain impurities that accelerate the decomposition of plastic into small particles - microplastics, which in the end are even more dangerous for nature.

Thus, Auchan is the first chain in Ukraine to completely refuse primary plastic at the checkout, starting from July 2021. In the chain's stores, educational activities are provided together with Zero Waste partners.

Let us remind you that recently the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on a complete ban on plastic bags in Ukraine. Retail chains and companies have 9 months to adapt, until March 2022.
