In the center of Odessa, on Ukrainian Heroes Avenue, a well-known activist, Demyan Hanul, was shot dead. He died in the city.
The city has implemented the "Siren" interception plan. According to the police, the shooter is an unknown person and is currently being sought.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reacted to the killing of the activist as follows:
"Regarding the murder of citizen Hanul in the city of Odesa. An investigative and operational group of the best employees has been formed with the central apparatus of the National Police, and it has already left for Odessa. A regiment of the National Police has also been sent to the city of Odessa... I am taking personal control of the investigation and disclosure of this crime," — he said during the hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada.
Odesa police have initiated criminal proceedings into the murder. The incident has been classified as a premeditated murder committed on order.
The information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Clause 11, Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
