The United States is not currently listing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a participant in the summit in Alaska, which will take place on August 15 between United States President Donald Trump and Putin. However, the White House does not completely rule out the possibility of Zelensky's participation in some meetings, write CNN, citing two sources familiar with the situation.
"A White House official stressed that any meetings involving Zelensky would likely take place after the Trump-Putin meeting," - says the message.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that a key element in ending the war is territorial issues. "There has to be a concession from the Russians and from the Ukrainians, it's difficult. The Ukrainians paid a huge price in this war", he pointed out.
US President Donald Trump also expressed the opinion that there is now an opportunity to reach a peaceful agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
Trump said he would meet with Putin on August 15 in Alaska, adding: "It's complicated. There will be some exchange of territory for the benefit of both sides, but we'll still discuss that."
A senior European diplomat attributed Putin's willingness to meet with Trump to joint pressure from Washington and allies, but stressed that this "does not mean a deal or a truce."
At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would not "give away" its territories to Russia as part of possible ceasefire agreements.
