Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva, responsible for European integration, said that Ukraine's accession to the EU will take place in the coming years and will definitely not last "five years". He told about this in an interview with "European Truth".
"Our accession to the EU will definitely take place in the coming years," the diplomat said. He admitted that not all EU states are ready for this decision, but assured that the negotiations are yielding results.
"Unfortunately, not all countries think alike, but we can definitely say that no EU country is against it. And every country has positive dynamics regarding the accession of Ukraine. Although the speed of this dynamic is different," he explained.
Bankova's representative refused to publicly predict the approximate year of entry, explaining that at this stage "unfortunately, not everything depends on us, but the negotiations will not drag on for a long time.
"Definitely not a decade or a five-year plan. Ukrainians, soldiers on the front lines, civilians who are now under fire, children who want to live in European Ukraine - they will not allow us to do this. It's about years," Zhovkva emphasized.
He also admitted that Ukraine will have to go through all stages of negotiations and carry out reforms, but assured that the country will be able to do it.
"Moreover, despite the war, our sectoral integration into the EU even accelerated. An example is the accession of Ukraine to the unified energy system of the EU. We did it ahead of schedule, one and a half years ahead of schedule," he said.
As you know, the Cabinet of Ministers expects to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU accession already in June this year.
