President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the government to prepare a decision on the termination of air traffic between Ukraine and Belarus. This was discussed at a meeting during which the events surrounding the Ryanair passenger plane were analyzed.
As a reminder, on May 23 at the Minsk airport they urgently landed a Ryanair plane traveling from Athens to Vilnius and detained the former editor of the Belarusian opposition channel Nexta Roman Protasevich.
According to the chief advisor of the Lithuanian president on foreign policy, Asta Skysgyrite, Belarus used a MiG-29 military fighter and a Mi-24 military helicopter to deploy the civilian aircraft.
"Taking into account the current situation, the president instructed the government to work out a decision to stop direct air traffic between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus and prohibit the flights of aircraft with Ukrainian registration to and through the territory of the Republic of Belarus," the message reads.
