After a busy day in the United Kingdom, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy headed to London Airport, where he spent the last 90 minutes answering questions from a group of journalists.
In particular, the head of state was asked how he felt about the prospect of elections in Ukraine. This was reported by Sky News.
The question came after several US Republicans, including Senator Lindsey Graham and Speaker Mike Johnson, suggested that Zelensky resign after Friday's heated Oval Office conversation with Donald Trump.
In return, Zelensky responds that he will resign if Ukraine is granted NATO membership.
"I can be exchanged for NATO. I said I would exchange for NATO membership, so I have fulfilled my mission," – says the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky emphasized that it is not enough to simply hold elections.
"It won't be easy to replace me, because it's not enough to simply hold elections. You would have to prevent me from participating. And that would be a little more difficult. Because you still have to negotiate with me."
Commenting on Lindsey Graham's statement that Zelensky probably "needs to resign," the president jokingly replied that he considered the senator a "good guy," but he is not a citizen of Ukraine.
"But I can grant him Ukrainian citizenship, and then as a citizen of Ukraine, his voice will be heard. The President of Ukraine is not elected at home in Lindsey Graham, but in Ukraine," – Zelensky said jokingly.
