In particular, he was asked whether Estonia should transfer to Ukraine young Ukrainians of draft age living on Estonian territory.
"The issue is not with Ukrainian citizens who left since the beginning of the war. Men and women of all ages were leaving, children were leaving. It is clear that there was a war. None of the people knew what would happen tomorrow. Everyone was saving themselves. We all opened the borders to any states of our neighbors, our friends, so that people would not oppress each other at the border." said Zelensky.
At the same time, as the head of state noted, at the beginning of the war, Ukraine managed to defend and return 50% of the territory captured by the Russians.
"We repelled the enemy. And our boys have been fighting for two years. And at this time, I will tell you frankly, there are people who crossed the border outside the rules or outside the law. And this is a question for these people, for these men. If they are of mobilization age, then they should help Ukraine, and they should be in Ukraine. Now I am not talking about the fact that someone should be at the front and someone should not be at the front. There is a law," — said Zelensky.
The president added that today he told the head of the Estonian government that there is a normal human rule.
"One military man is paid by the state of Ukraine. No one helps us with this. There are six to eight taxpayers for one soldier. And if you are in Ukraine, and you are not at the front, but you work - wherever you work, we treat each person with respect - and if you work and pay taxes, then you also defend the state, and this is very necessary." , Zelensky emphasized.
The head of state emphasized that paying taxes is important, because "there will be no money for the military, and there will be no money - there will be no military, there will be no one to defend Ukraine. Such are the rules of life."
"But if you are abroad, and you are of mobilization age, and you are not at the front, and you do not pay taxes, and you left illegally. There are questions. That's all. That is, the position is that if we want to save Ukraine, if we want to save Europe, then all of us must understand: either we help Ukraine or we don't. Either we are citizens who are at the front, or we are citizens who work and pay taxes, because there will be no money for the military, and there will be no money for the military - there will be no military, there will be no one to defend Ukraine.
