The President called for a month-long ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticized Vladimir Putin's proposed three-day truce for May 9 and is insisting on a 30-day ceasefire.

Speaking to reporters, the president said he "doesn't want to play with Putin's proposed short truces." According to him, a 30-day truce model is the most optimal, since it is impossible to agree on anything in a few days.

"An unconditional ceasefire is a model that the Americans proposed. Yes, let's try it for 30 days. Why a ceasefire for 30 days? Because it's impossible to agree on anything in three, five, seven days," quotes Zelensky Ukrinform.

He also added that Ukraine cannot guarantee the safety of world leaders in Moscow on May 9.

"Playing to give Putin a soft atmosphere to come out of isolation on May 9, and to make everyone comfortable and safe - those leaders, or Putin's friends, or partners who will come to Kremlin Square for one reason or another on May 9 - no one will help Putin," he emphasized.

He emphasized that Russia must clearly show that it is ready to talk about a real ceasefire.

"It's just a matter of them killing you before the 7th, then the 7th makes it comfortable for two or three days, and then on the 11th they attack us again with missiles. I just don't see any suggestion in that," - explained the president.

He also noted that if a decision is made to cease fire for a month, the issue of monitoring must be resolved quickly.

"If there is a solution for a month, that is, in a broad sense there will be no hot war this month, there will be 100% violations, not even 90%. But in the general sense of war and the scale of war that there is now, of course there will be no war. And everyone understands that we need to resolve the issue of monitoring very quickly. Number one is a ceasefire. And the second issue is to see what will happen in general with the plot of the end of the war. These two issues are definitely the most relevant," said Zelensky.
