Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that during a conversation with his US counterpart Donald Trump, he discussed key Ukrainian priorities, including an immediate ceasefire. According to Zelensky, Trump promised to contact him immediately after his meeting with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska to inform about the results and jointly determine further steps.
The Trump-Putin talks, to be held in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, will be the first face-to-face meeting between a Russian leader and a sitting U.S. president since the start of the full-scale war more than three years ago. The White House said organizational details were still being worked out, and described the summit as an “assessment meeting” where Trump could assess the Russian leader’s intentions.
Although Trump avoided a clear answer as to whether he would invite Zelensky to talks with Putin, he said that after Friday's summit, a personal meeting involving the Ukrainian and Russian leaders, or a "Putin-Zelensky-Trump" format, could take place.
According to CBS News sources, the US is considering the possibility of such a meeting by the end of next week.
