American easing of sanctions against Russian oil could bring Russia up to $10 billion — and that money will go to war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a joint press conference with French President Macron.
Zelenskyy reacted to the US decision to partially ease sanctions against Russian oil, which is currently on tankers at sea.
"This relaxation on the part of America alone could give Russia about $10 billion for war. This certainly doesn't help peace," he said.
The President emphasized: Russia spends money from the sale of energy resources on weapons.
"Lifting sanctions will strengthen Russia's position. It spends money from the sale of energy resources on weapons, and then all this flies against us," — explained Zelensky.
He noted that he hears arguments about "stabilizing the situation," but does not share that logic.
Zelensky also recalled that the same drones used to strike Ukraine are already being recorded in other countries.
"These same drones are also used against Iran's neighbors, Europeans, Americans. Therefore, lifting sanctions so that more drones will come flying at you later is not, in my opinion, the right decision." he declared.
Separately, Zelensky called for overcoming the blocking of the 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia. According to him, it is impossible to achieve lasting peace without constant pressure on the aggressor.
