Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law introducing payments of UAH 50 for servicemen released from captivity.
On October 9, the Verkhovna Rada supported draft law No. 13627 on the payment of additional compensation to military personnel released from captivity who have illnesses and require long-term inpatient treatment.
The adopted law provides that servicemen who, after being released from captivity, require long-term inpatient treatment (more than 30 days) will receive a monthly payment of UAH 50.
The law also stipulates that funds will be paid during the first three months of treatment. The document regulates the procedure for issuing certificates for injuries or illnesses sustained in captivity, in order to avoid different interpretations of norms and bureaucratic obstacles.
In particular, the law provides that:
- the payment is valid for the entire period of continuous treatment (including movement between hospitals);
- in case of suspicion of crimes against national security or war crimes, payments are suspended, and upon conviction, they are canceled;
- a certificate of the circumstances of the injury or illness is issued quickly - within 5 days
As the Prime Minister clarified Yulia Svyridenko, previously only those who suffered wounds, contusions, or mutilations received such payments. However, many soldiers also have serious illnesses after captivity that require long-term treatment.
"Now the state guarantees assistance to everyone who has been captured. An important step for comprehensive support for our defenders," she wrote.
