Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had a "long and meaningful" conversation with US President Donald Trump after the US and Russian leaders met in Alaska. The Ukrainian leader made the announcement on Telegram.
He noted that he first spoke with Trump one-on-one for over an hour, and then European leaders joined the conversation. In total, they spoke for more than an hour and a half.
"Ukraine once again confirms that it is ready to work as productively as possible for the sake of peace. President Trump informed me about his meeting with the Russian leader, about the main points of the conversation. It is important that America's strength affects the development of the situation," — Zelensky wrote.
He emphasized that Ukraine supports Trump's proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, America, and Russia, as key issues can only be discussed at the level of leaders.
Zelensky also announced that he would visit Washington at Trump's invitation.
"I'm going to discuss all the details after the killings are over, after the war is over, with President Trump in Washington on Monday. Thank you for the invitation."
He also stressed the importance of Europeans being involved at all stages in order to reliably guarantee security together with America.
"We discussed positive signals from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing Ukraine's security. We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners," — Zelensky wrote.
