Police officers in Odesa detained two young men who, on the order of the "curator", set fire to a police car. The perpetrators of the crime are 19- and 17-year-old residents of Odesa region. The actions of offenders are classified as intentional damage to someone else's property, committed by arson based on a prior conspiracy by a group of persons.
For this crime, they face up to 10 years in prison.
The event took place this night in the city of Rozdilna. The perpetrators poured flammable liquid and set fire to a law enforcement officer's car parked in the parking lot near the administration building. The fire was immediately detected and extinguished by police officers. People were not injured.
In the course of operational and investigative measures, the police already in an hour installed palii, which turned out to be two fellow villagers from the Rozdilnian community. It turned out that an unknown "curator" contacted the 19-year-old boy through one of the messengers and offered him to burn a special police vehicle for a reward. Such videos are then published in the Russian media as allegedly underground actions and designed to discredit the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine, which includes the National Police. The young man does not study or work anywhere, so he immediately agreed to the offer and looked for a 17-year-old accomplice among his acquaintances.
They bought fuel and lubricants, scouted the situation near the parking lot and the car, and at night set arson, which was recorded on video as evidence of the work done to order. The perpetrators sent the "video report" to the so-called curator, from whom they expected money. However, they never received the reward. Instead, they were detained by the police.
From the scene of the incident and from the young men, the police seized bottles with flammable liquid, phones and other items of evidentiary value in the case.
Offenders were detained in procedural order. They were informed of the suspicion under part 2 of Art. 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The boys now face up to 10 years in prison for setting the car on fire, which was committed by a group of people based on a previous conspiracy.
The measures were carried out by operatives of the criminal investigation department, investigators of the investigative department of the State Police in Odesa region and the Rozdilnya district police department, employees of the SBU, under the procedural guidance of the Rozdilnya district prosecutor's office. The investigation is ongoing.
The police urges young people to act wisely: "Remember that instead of the promised reward for a crime, you can end up in prison and ruin your life."
