"Nuclear weapons will not help end the war," Kuleba on the idea of creating nuclear weapons in Ukraine

Ukraine

Refusal of such weapons was a big mistake for the country

Nuclear weapons will not help end the war in Ukraine. However, giving up such weapons was a big mistake for the country. This was stated by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba in an interview with Channel 24. He emphasized that our country is not going to restore its nuclear potential.

"Some people just have a memory like a fish. 5 days before the start of a full-scale invasion, on February 19, 2022, during a speech at the Munich Security Conference, President Zelenskyi said, in particular, that "the countries of the Budapest Memorandum have abandoned us - they took away our nuclear weapons in response to a promise to guarantee security, and now we have neither nuclear weapons nor security, we are on the verge of war"" — Kuleba said.

The diplomat recalled that Russia immediately picked up on the words of the President of Ukraine and began to invent that Zelensky was allegedly threatening to create a nuclear bomb. According to him, the partners were concerned about this.

"Our partners, who have done a lot for us, just need to worry less about what Ukraine can do and work more on what they can do to protect Ukraine and Europe from Russia. Because anyone who thinks that Vladimir Putin will win in Ukraine and stop - does not understand anything about Putin at all." emphasized Kuleba.

The former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that Ukraine's renunciation of nuclear weapons was a big mistake.

"I know there is a big historical debate about this. But was it a tragic mistake for Ukraine to give up its nuclear arsenal? It was Who deprived us of the nuclear arsenal? President Bill Clinton and President Boris Yeltsin. They conspired against Ukraine." said the diplomat.

However, restoring nuclear weapons will not help Ukraine's fight against the Russian Federation, Kuleba noted.

"It will create more problems than it will solve. I don't even know, scientists have yet to say whether we have all the technical capabilities for this."

The diplomat emphasized that he was tired of constant attempts by partners to accuse Ukraine of what it wants to do. He is outraged by the words that Kyiv is seriously considering the possibility of restoring the nuclear arsenal.
