The Verkhovna Rada adopted Resolution No. 13369, which introduced changes to the models of passports of citizens of Ukraine, including those for traveling abroad. From now on, entries in the passport booklet will no longer be duplicated in Russian. This became known following the results of the plenary session of the parliament on October 23.
All entries are in Ukrainian only
The resolution was adopted on October 23 during a plenary session of parliament — 265 people's deputies voted "in favor."
From now on, all entries in the passport of a citizen of Ukraine in the form of a booklet must be exclusively in Ukrainian. Previously, the data in such documents was duplicated in Russian.
Thus, the resolution repeals the old regulation on international passports, approved back in 1992, which did not comply with current legislation.
Passport booklet - a relic of the past
Since 2016, passports of citizens of Ukraine have been issued only in the form of an ID card, and the last booklets were printed back in 2014.
However, in exceptional cases, a passport-booklet can still be issued by court decision. All entries in such documents will now also be exclusively in Ukrainian.
Are passport booklets still valid?
So, if a citizen has a passport booklet with entries in Russian, the document remains valid.
We remind you that Ukrainians must complete the digitization of their paper work books by June 10, 2026. Untimely conversion of documents into digital format may lead to a reduction in insurance experience, its partial loss, or delays in obtaining a pension.
