It became known that upon arriving at the scene, the police found another zoo employee who tried to help the injured, but was himself trapped with the animal. In order to save people's lives, law enforcement officers were forced to use weapons and neutralize the leopard.
The injured employee was taken to the city hospital with multiple wounds to the head, neck, and limbs.
According to information from the director of the Odessa Zoo, the leopard found itself outside the enclosure and had to be shot.
Bilyakov reported that the animal could jump over the territory of the zoo at any moment and then there could be human casualties.
It was not possible to put him to sleep, because a leopard could not be hit with a syringe.
The director also added that the incident occurred due to a violation of safety techniques.
