OpenAI plans to help build a new, powerful data center in the UAE, which could eventually become one of the largest in the world, and a significant expansion of the company's global ambitions in AI infrastructure, reported the Bloomberg.
The ChatGPT developer is expected to be one of the major investors in the recently announced 5G data center campus in Abu Dhabi. OpenAI's participation has not yet been finalized, but an official announcement could come in the near future.
American tech giant Oracle Corp. is also involved in the project and will help develop at least part of the first phase of the campus in Abu Dhabi.
Once completed, the sprawling facility will cover 10 square miles and use about as much energy as five nuclear reactors.
Not all 5 gigawatts will go to OpenAI, but rather will be distributed among several companies.
MGX, an Abu Dhabi investment firm, is also considering participating in the data center project with OpenAI and G42. Other US partners may also join the project.
