Cyber security experts provided recommendations, which will help protect personal data, as well as reduce the risk of falling prey to fraudsters.
- Use complex passwords: they must contain at least ten characters, including upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. Different passwords should be used for each resource. Password managers will help you keep all your passwords safe and convenient.
- Activation of two-factor authentication is another important step to protect your accounts. Use a phone, alternative mail, or services that generate one-time passwords. Check the number of devices connected to your accounts and change passwords if you detect unknown devices.
- Do not click on questionable links, especially if you see an exclamation mark in the browser's address bar. If you see a lock icon, it indicates a secure connection.
- Try not to use public Wi-Fi. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi only when you use them.
- Lock the computer and other gadgets if you leave them.
- Carry out financial and other confidential transactions only from your own gadgets.
- Back up your data regularly to online services or save copies on external media (SDD, HDD).
- Use only licensed programs and update them in a timely and systematic manner. Avoid using Russian software.
- Before installing applications, carefully read the terms of personal data processing and privacy policy. Avoid unknown or questionable apps that require access to your data, such as your camera, microphone, or contacts. Download apps only from official stores.
The Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine emphasizes that everything you post on the Internet can stay there for a long time. Be careful about the information you disclose, especially through social media. This will protect you from possible malicious actions of fraudsters.
