A man who underwent a pancreatic gland transplant for the first time in Ukraine on August 6 died in the Lviv city hospital of emergency medical care. This was reported on the page of the medical institution in Facebook.
According to the doctors, at first the patient felt well, but then his condition deteriorated sharply, requiring resuscitation.
— Unfortunately, Andrey, our patient with a transplanted pancreas, died. For a long time, his condition was indeed stable, the kidney was starting to work, and so was the pancreas. But, unfortunately, then the indicators rapidly worsened, the blood vessels became thrombosed, and neither the operation nor the subsequent resuscitation had any effect, - the message says.
According to doctors, pancreas transplantation is one of the most difficult organ transplant surgeries.
- World statistics show that every third patient does not survive after such an operation, while the second two get a chance to live a full life. We sincerely wanted Andrei to have this chance as well, said the hospital.
