The Ukrainian state-owned company Ukrhydroenergo is preparing a lawsuit against Russia for compensation for damages caused to hydroelectric power stations by missile strikes. They also want to collect compensation from Russia for the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP.
According to told Yuliya Tolchynina-Burunska, director of the legal department of Ukrhydroenergo, the company is "actively preparing" to submit lawsuits to the national courts of Ukraine, for which evidence is being collected and damages are assessed - not only direct damage, but also lost profits and costs for the protection of hydropower facilities.
In the case of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP, the company will separately submit a claim to international investment arbitration.
"We made calculations. This is the loss of the station itself, this is the loss of profit. This is approximately 2,5 billion euros. We are preparing a lawsuit against Russia and have already sent them a notice, a claim for payment of this amount, and if there is no compensation within six months, we will file a lawsuit in the international arbitration court. We found an opportunity to inform Russia — we did it with the help of our European friends. And let's note that their office, their president, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and all the structures that should have received this claim, they received it.", - stated in DW interview general director of Ukrenergo Ihor Syrota.
It is noted that the company has already filed a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights, and now Ukrainian diplomats and lawyers, together with international partners, are working on the creation of an international compensation mechanism.
