The former number one racket of Ukraine, Angelina Kalinina, withdrew from the tennis tournament of the Olympics in Paris. It is reported the official site of the competition.
The 27-year-old Ukrainian decided not to compete at the Summer Games. Information about its withdrawal appeared in the schedule of the Olympics.
In the first round of the tennis tournament, Kalinin was supposed to meet Arancha Rus from the Netherlands. The match was scheduled for July 27, but due to rain, the match was postponed. The opponents were supposed to take the court on Sunday, July 28.
The 2024 Olympics could be the debut in Kalinina's career. The Ukrainian tennis player was preparing for the Games at a clay tournament in Prague. There she reached the quarterfinals, where she lost to Poland's Magdalena French.
Five athletes will now defend the colors of Ukraine in tennis. Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, Elina Svitolina will compete in singles, and sisters Lyudmila and Nadiya Kichenok will compete in doubles. Kostyuk and Yastremska will also play in a duet.
