Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on February 14, 2025, that it would be “very, very, very difficult” for Ukraine to survive without US military support, both now as it tries to repel a Russian invasion and in the future after the war is over. This was reported by NBC News.
"It will probably be very, very, very difficult. And, of course, in all difficult situations you have a chance," — Zelensky said on the sidelines of the Munich Conference.
"But we will have little chance, low chance of surviving without the support of the United States. I think it is very important, critical. I don't want to think about 'fighting Russia without American support.'", — said Zelensky.
"I don't want to think that we won't be strategic partners," he added.
The Ukrainian president also expressed concern that Ukraine would be vulnerable to another major attack by Russia in the future if the US did not continue to provide military support.
Zelensky said that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to sit at the negotiating table not to end the war, but to reach a ceasefire agreement that would lift certain international sanctions against Russia and allow its military to regroup.
"This is really what he wants. He wants to take a break, prepare, train, lift some sanctions, through a ceasefire and so on," said Zelensky.
