Ukrainians will have an increase in electricity tariffs by the end of May, the minister said

But he will not be one for everyone

The decision to increase the electricity tariff will be made by the government by the end of May. But probably the increase will not be the same for everyone, but will depend on the level of electricity consumption. Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko stated this during question time to the government in the parliament.

"This issue is under consideration, today we are making final calculations, a decision will be made in the coming week, that is, by the end of May... We are currently considering a differentiated approach. I don't think that one tariff will simply be changed to another - there will be differentiation depending on the amount of electricity consumption," — said the minister to the people's deputies.

As Galushchenko explained, today the electricity tariff for the population does not cover the cost of electricity production. And such companies as "Energoatom" and "Ukrhydroenergo" pay the difference between the market price of a kilowatt-hour and tariffs for the population.

As a reminder, from June 1, 2023, the electricity tariff for the population was set at UAH 2,64/kWh including VAT.
