Ukraine is considering radical measures to return millions of its citizens who left because of the war. The government is proposing to EU countries to reduce or stop financial assistance to refugees, as well as limit consular services for men of conscription age. This was reported by the publication The country.
"Kyiv advocates that EU member states stop helping refugees as a means of pressure, and men of conscription age should not have access to consular services. At the same time, he strives not to lose contact with those who left, with the help of legislative reforms." — the message says.
In December, the Ministry of National Unity was created, which is faced with the task of returning refugees home. In general, according to the UN, there are about 6,7 million Ukrainians abroad, and with economic migrants, this figure reaches 10 million.
However, many Ukrainians refuse to return due to lack of security, high cost of living and lack of quality medicine. The authorities admit that every year the chances of returning citizens decrease. The government, in a population strategy adopted in September, acknowledges that between 1,3 and 3,3 million people may not return.
