Ukraine and Great Britain concluded an agreement on the development of defense capabilities. It provides for the supply, repair and production of weapons. It is reported Office of the President.
The agreement on official credit support for the development of Ukraine's defense capabilities was signed by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov and British Defense Minister John Healy in the presence of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Prime Minister Kir Starmer.
The document will make it possible to start Ukrainian-British defense projects. It is, in particular, about the supply, repair and partial production of air defense systems, armored vehicles and ammunition.
The agreement provides that British suppliers will be able to enter into credit agreements and contracts with Ukraine for 2 billion pounds sterling (over 2,5 billion dollars). This amount may be increased in the future. The loan repayment period is 15 years.
As explained in the Office of the President, the agreement will help to provide the Defense Forces of Ukraine with air defense systems and means of radar and defeat by 2026, to obtain technologies and master the partial production of barrels, spare parts and components for artillery installations, Western-style armored vehicles.
"This agreement will reduce the burden on the state budget and will allow, in the short term, to obtain the necessary weapons for the defense of our state, primarily in the field of air defense," — noted Rustem Umyerov.
The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that control over the use of funds will be carried out by a joint commission made up of representatives of both governments.
