Ukraine warns OSCE about Russia preparing new attacks on energy sector

Ukraine has informed the OSCE that it has sufficient information about Russia preparing new attacks on the country's energy sector and infrastructure. In particular, this concerns facilities and networks related to the maintenance of nuclear power plants. About this said Deputy Permanent Representative of Ukraine to International Organizations in Vienna Rostyslav Palahusynets during a meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation, writes Ukrinform.

"We have ample information about preparations for further Russian attacks on our energy sector and infrastructure, including the facilities and networks serving our nuclear power plants," — he said during a meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation.

The diplomat emphasized that every Russian attack on the energy sector during the harsh winter weakens and undermines the efforts of key states, including the United States, to end the war.

"Ukraine is as constructive as possible in diplomacy, while Russia is focused only on hitting and bullying people," — Palahusynets emphasized.

He also said that during this heating season alone, 256 air attacks were carried out on Ukraine's energy and critical infrastructure, and since January 11, Russia has been striking energy facilities virtually every day.

“War criminal Putin continues to wage a genocidal war against women, children, and the elderly. This winter campaign has a clear humanitarian dimension: attacks are synchronized and structured to maximize suffering as temperatures drop to extreme levels and disruptions to heat, electricity, and water become life-threatening,” — added the diplomat.

Palahusynets emphasized that the Russian Federation is deliberately attempting to create living conditions designed to physically diminish the Ukrainian people. This, in turn, meets the definition of "Article II (c) of the Genocide Convention."

In addition, the Ukrainian delegation called on OSCE member states to turn unity into action. In particular, to accelerate the supply of air defense systems and ammunition, expand means of countering missiles and drones, and increase various types of pressure on Russia to force an end to the war and ensure compliance.

Gratitude was also expressed to Poland for the "Heat for Kyiv" initiative, which raised more than 1 million, and to almost 24,000 donors and countries for supporting the energy sector of our country. In particular, Norway, Britain, Germany, Italy, Austria and others.
