In March of this year, the government launched a project to grow cotton, a component for the production of gunpowder. About this reported the press service of the National Association of the Defense Industry of Ukraine.
It is noted that the component for gunpowder is grown in several regions of the country on 10 experimental fields.
"The results of the post-harvest examination should show whether Ukrainian raw materials are suitable for the manufacture of explosives." - noted in the association.
At the same time, Serhiy Vysotskyi, deputy head of the defense industry association, noted that the global shortage of gunpowder limits the ability of supplier countries to meet the growing needs of Ukraine.
"Companies of our Association can double the production of ammunition of various calibers, including 122 mm and mortars. However, this requires a stable supply of gunpowder and explosives. Currently, there are no such permanent supplies." Vysotsky emphasized.
The press service added that it is possible to increase the production of ammunition in Ukraine only under the condition of ensuring stable supplies of gunpowder or creating its own production.
