NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the Alliance's allies have not only fulfilled but also exceeded the planned Washington Summit commitments to provide Ukraine with 40 billion euros in military assistance. He said this in Brussels at a press conference on the eve of a meeting of NATO defense ministers.
He noted that allies have provided more than 50 billion euros in military assistance, more than half of which comes from European allies and Canada.
"This is a clear signal of our unwavering commitment to Ukraine, and it also takes a big step in the direction of what President Trump has called for. I agree with him that we should level security assistance to Ukraine," — Rutte said.
He added that since 2022, NATO members have provided Ukraine with 99% of all military assistance.
“We have seen recent additions to this from Sweden, Finland, Canada, but also, of course, Mirages from France and F-16s from the Netherlands. Other Allies are also stepping up their efforts to train more Ukrainian troops. The recently established NATO Command in Wiesbaden to Support Ukraine is at the forefront of coordinating these and future contributions,” — the NATO Secretary General clarified.
Mark Rutte stressed that in order to "really change the trajectory of the conflict, we need to do even more."
"The stronger Ukraine is on the battlefield, the stronger it is at the negotiating table, the greater the chances of reaching a favorable agreement for lasting peace," - believes the NATO Secretary General.
