Ukraine will not receive military aid from the US until at least mid-December — Bloomberg

Supporters of Ukraine in Congress are fighting hard to expand the aid package

New U.S. aid to Ukraine risks being delayed until mid-December or longer, casting doubt on Washington's ability to continue supplying weapons that both the Biden administration and the Ukrainian government call vital. About this reported the Bloomberg.

Supporters of Ukraine in Congress are fighting hard to extend the aid package, whose fate is now embroiled in a partisan battle over border policy and detached from mandatory bills that could prompt swift action.

The closest Congress could wrap up negotiations and pass a new aid package for Ukraine is in mid-December, nearly two months after President Joe Biden first requested $61 billion to support Ukraine in its war with Russia.

"We need to push ourselves for next week's talks. Ukrainians are running out of fuel, weapons and ammunition." said Delaware Democrat Chris Coons.

Senators from both parties plan to work in the coming days on an aid package deal along with border policy that they can vote on after they return to Washington from the Thanksgiving holiday later this month.

The newspaper noted that the widespread support of Ukraine in the United States is cracking, as the war has dragged on and reached a dead end, and the Kremlin is betting on the "debt" game and what it can do to survive Kyiv's supporters in the United States and Europe.

"This is an active front, and our ability to continue supporting Ukraine is under increasing threat," — said White House national security spokesman John Kirby.

Influential supporters of Ukraine in Congress have said that they are still confident of more aid from the US. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul said there was "no chance" the aid would not be approved.

But it will be politically difficult for House Speaker Mike Johnson, who is trying to overcome a backlash among hardline conservatives over his plan to avert a US government shutdown. Many of these ultraconservatives also oppose aid to Ukraine, and it would take only a few of them to oust Johnson, just as they ousted his predecessor, Kevin McCarthy.
