Ukraine does not insist on its immediate accession to NATO, taking into account the position of individual member states. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga in a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the NATO ministerial meeting.
Answering the question about the format of membership and the application of Article 5, the minister noted that there is no dialogue about it now: "The time has to come for that."
Andrii Sybiga admitted that during the war, the agreement on the format of membership does not seem realistic.
"We are a country subject to Russian aggression, and it is really difficult to talk about the possibility of a country's membership in NATO when military operations are being conducted on its territory - this is the position of some NATO members who believe that this may lead to their direct involvement in the war. And Ukraine does not seek this," - explained the minister.
However, he emphasized that Kyiv's principled position on membership remains unchanged. Ukraine, as stated in the recently released position statement, considers NATO membership the only possible security guarantee for itself.
"We are talking about our membership in NATO. The strategic goal is to join NATO." He declared.
