Ukraine should become a buffer zone between the Russian Federation and the West, — Orban

Because Putin will continue to destroy it

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes that Ukraine should not be accepted into the EU or NATO and should be left as a "buffer zone" between Russia and the rest of Europe, providing certain security guarantees, because Moscow will never accept its membership in the EU and NATO. Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban stated this in an interview with a number of European publications index.hu.

"Whether you like it or not, Ukrainians like it or not, Ukraine on the map is where it is. The best prospect is for it to be a buffer zone between Russia and the West - of course, with security guarantees. If this does not help, Ukraine will lose territories. Russia will destroy Ukraine again, again and again. Russia will never accept the fact that such a member of the EU and NATO as Ukraine appears on its borders, never," - Orban said.

At the same time, the Hungarian Prime Minister believes that in 2008 it was really possible to admit Ukraine and Georgia to the EU and NATO, but this opportunity was wasted, and with it "Ukraine's prospects for future membership in the EU and NATO."

In response to Schüssel's remark that a ceasefire now would mean a virtual defeat for Ukraine, Orbán said the assessment may depend "on how you look at the future," because as the hot phase of the war continues, Ukraine may lose even more territory.

The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that NATO already includes the countries of Western Europe, which are apparently much stronger than the Russians. Therefore, he does not believe that the Kremlin will dare to attack any of the current members of the alliance.

"There is no threat that Russia will attack a NATO member country," - Viktor Orban believes.

He also expressed the opinion that Russia will never take Ukraine seriously as a partner in negotiations, "only the USA and, perhaps, the EU."

Schussel noted that there is no certainty that the agreements with Russia can be trusted. Orbán replied that, in his opinion, "it's not a question of trust, but of strength."

"We Europeans are not strong enough for the Russians to take us seriously. This is a measurement of forces. This is war. We have to demonstrate strength and clearly convey to the Russians: we have our interests, they have theirs, based on this we can agree on something," - Viktor Orban noted.

He believes that Europe is not able to supply enough weapons to Ukrainians, because in the societies of European states "the aid is considered to be too much anyway."
Therefore, it is necessary to start negotiations on a ceasefire. At the same time, he believes that Ukraine should be given adequate security guarantees as a buffer state.

"We cannot afford to help Ukraine until it wins by military means," - added the prime minister of Hungary.
