TikTok blocked for users in the US

tick

On Saturday evening, January 18, the social network TikTok was removed from the Apple and Google app stores for US users. This happened before the law banning the platform was due to take effect. About this reported the Associated Press.

As of 22:50 p.m. ET, the app had disappeared from the Apple and Google stores because the law prohibits offering social media. It also required TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, which is based in China, to sell the platform. Otherwise, the app would have been blocked, which is what happened.

Now, when users tried to open TikTok, they would see a pop-up window that prevented them from scrolling through videos.

“Sorry, TikTok is currently unavailable. The US has passed a law banning TikTok. Unfortunately, this means you cannot use TikTok at this time. We are fortunate that President Trump has made it clear that he will work with us on a solution to restore TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned.” the message said.

Prior to this announcement, the company informed users that its service would be “temporarily unavailable,” saying it was working to restore its service in the US “as soon as possible.”
