The Verkhovna Rada will limit the use of the multi-platform Telegram messenger — on the recommendation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. About this informed People's Deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn on Facebook.
Yurchyshyn, who is the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada's Committee on Freedom of Speech, said that he had received an order from the Parliament's apparatus with new provisions on the operation of Telegram in the local network of the Verkhovna Rada.
Based on it (on the recommendation of the National Cyber Security Coordination Center) the Council's apparatus implements the following security measures:
- mandatory two-factor authentication and cancellation of contact synchronization (it is also necessary to block access to the computer if you leave it unattended, so that third parties cannot access your account);
- prohibiting the transfer of data used at work and official communication in Telegram;
- prohibition to install and use the Telegram client on work computers or personal computers used in official activities
It is specified that the messenger is blocked using technical and software tools. In addition, requests for unauthorized attempts to connect to the service are recorded.
"I think that such security measures are quite logical. Unfortunately, there have already been examples when third parties obtained the data of government employees through Telegram, which was used on work devices. Did they create fakes, as in the case of the alleged channel of speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. With this order, we minimize the risks," — emphasized Yurchyshyn.
In the end, he noted that "this applies specifically to employees of the Council's apparatus and does not limit the use of the messenger for personal purposes."
