On December 25, an Azerbaijani Embraer 190 passenger plane en route from Baku to Russian Grozny crashed near Aktau in Kazakhstan. As reported news agencies, the liner signaled an emergency when it was over the Caspian Sea. The local newspaper Orda reports that the Embraer E190 plane belonged to Azerbaijan Airlines. Before the disaster, the plane made several circles over the Aktau airport. He was diverted there from Makhachkala due to fog. Before the incident, Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2 8243 issued a distress call.


There were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board. At least 38 people died as a result of the collapse. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and the head of the state commission for the investigation of the causes of the plane crash, Kanat Bozumbayev. Tengrinews reports.


"The bodies are in bad condition, they are mostly burnt. The bodies are in the morgue, they need to be identified." - quotes an official of the publication.
According to Bozumbayev, 11 of the 29 injured passengers who managed to survive are in serious condition. Other hospitalized patients are in a moderate condition.

Marat Karabayev, Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan told reporters that 190 people survived the wreckage of the Embraer 29 of Azerbaijan Airlines.
Among those who survived: 9 Russians, 14 citizens of Azerbaijan and 3 citizens of Kyrgyzstan. In addition, according to Karabaev, 3 crew members survived.

The minister also specified that 7 Russian citizens and 6 Kazakhs died during the accident. Among the victims of the plane crash is one child, whose nationality is not specified.
According according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, there were no Ukrainians on board the plane. 150 employees and 45 units of equipment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other emergency services of Kazakhstan worked at the place of the fall.
The causes of the disaster are currently unknown. As Bozumbayev noted, an investigation into the incident has begun, which is being conducted under the leadership of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.
Footage from the interior of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane appeared on the network shortly before the crash, passengers could already see the damage.
Azerbaijan Airlines announced the suspension of flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala until the investigation into the causes of the crash is completed.
