Greenland is willing to strengthen cooperation with the United States, but only on its own terms, Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede said. Reuters reports.
He said that the government is currently looking for ways to establish cooperation with the Donald Trump administration, but decisions on any actions will be made in Greenland.
"Greenland's independence is a matter for Greenland, including the use of its land, so Greenland will decide what kind of agreement we should reach," — Egede said, responding to a question about the expansion of US military capabilities on the island.
On Monday, the prime minister convened Greenland's party leaders for talks to discuss a common approach to cooperation with Washington.
"This is the first time Greenland has been listened to so carefully. We need to stay calm, seize the opportunity and unite." added the prime minister.
When asked about the possible use of force by the US, the Prime Minister of Greenland replied: "When we first heard about it, it was alarming. But yesterday the vice president said they are not interested in using weapons. Our interest is in cooperation."
