US President Donald Trump has named tough immigration policies among his main achievements. He said this during his speech at a rally in Michigan to mark 100 days in office.
The White House chief of staff described how the US is stopping illegal immigration "week after week" and deporting "the worst of the worst" to prisons in El Salvador. He recalled that he made such promises during the election campaign, and when he became president, he immediately signed decrees to speed up deportations and reform the US immigration system.
During Trump's speech, videos of deported illegal immigrants were shown on large screens. Trump once again blamed the previous US administration, which, he said, allowed "immigrants to rape and kill" citizens of the country.
"This terrible betrayal is over. Expelling the invaders is not just a campaign promise, it is my solemn duty as commander in chief. I am obliged to do this to save our country," the president said.
He added that the US administration under his presidency had set an "all-time record" in reducing the number of illegal border crossings.
Trump also boasted about his economic achievements, in particular, that he managed to lower egg prices.
"In the first week of my tenure, I began to be criticized for egg prices," — he said, adding that the cost of eggs in the US dropped by 87% for Easter, and prices for gasoline, groceries, and medicines also fell.
In his speech, Trump mentioned the introduction of US tariffs on other countries, in particular China, saying that China had taken “more jobs from the US than any country has taken from any other country in all time.” At the same time, he expressed confidence that a “fair deal” could be reached with the Chinese.
"We get along with China. I think it will work out: they want to make a deal - and we will make a fair deal," Trump said.
