US President Donald Trump has agreed that the only acceptable compromise for Ukraine is a cessation of hostilities along the current front line, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a telephone conversation with the host "TSN Week" Alla Mazur.
The President of Ukraine explained whether there really was a turning point in Donald Trump's position regarding Ukraine and whether he understood the arguments regarding the impossibility of surrendering the territories.
Mazur said that she spoke with President Zelensky and asked whether there had really been a turning point in Trump's position and he had accepted the arguments that Ukraine would not give up Donbas, so now it would be necessary to put pressure on Putin, not on Kyiv.
"Trump actually agreed that the Ukrainian compromise is a ceasefire on the front line," Zelensky answered.
Zelensky also noted that Trump did not impose sanctions against Russia for no reason. The American president's position was influenced not only by the desire to resolve the war in Ukraine, but also by the Kremlin's actions: the strike on a kindergarten in Kharkiv, the inability of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to achieve success on the front, and the destructive statements coming from the Kremlin.
"America's sanctions blow looks even more catastrophic after the 19th package of sanctions from Europe," — added the Ukrainian leader.
However, despite the sanctions, Trump still appears to be holding out a “negotiation window” for Putin. The Russian president still has a chance to agree to peace talks.
