Satellite images showed a possible supply of weapons from North Korea to Russia

North Korea, Russia

Rail traffic across the border between North Korea and Russia has increased since last month due to an unknown cargo. The U.S.-based Korean think tank Beyond Parallel examined satellite images of railcars and vehicles between the two countries and found that traffic is "much higher" than at any time in the past five years, it said. Fox News.

"Following the Kim-Putin summit, satellite images as of October 5, 2023 have recorded extremely high freight car traffic at North Korea's Tumangang Railway Station, located on the border between North Korea and Russia," — writes Beyond Parallel in a report published on Friday.

The report continued: "In light of yesterday's announcement by a US government official that North Korea has begun transferring artillery to Russia, it is likely that these shipments are intended to support Russia in its war with Ukraine."

At the Tumangang railway station in North Korea, there is a constant increase in the number of freight cars. As of October 6, approximately 73 wagons have been documented, compared to a maximum of 20.

"Given that Kim Jong Un and Putin discussed some military exchanges and cooperation at their recent summit, the sharp increase in rail traffic likely indicates North Korea's supply of arms and ammunition to Russia." Beyond Parallel claims.

North Korea, Russia

Putin recently hosted North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to discuss a potential arms deal, though neither leader signed any formal deal by the end of the six-day trip. North Korea will reportedly receive advanced weaponry and food supplies from Russia in exchange for more ammunition and artillery.

"North Korea is a country in despair. Almost everyone has suspended her, there is mass starvation in the country — if you're going to go to the North Koreans for help, that's a last resort." said Seth Jones, director of the International Security Program and Transnational Threats Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
