The US allegedly opposed the promise of continued support for Ukraine and the phrase about the illegality of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation in the G7 statement.
Edition Politico, citing its sources, writes that problems arose in agreeing on a joint G7 statement due to the position of the administration of current US President Donald Trump.
It is noted that Washington is against including a phrase about continued support for Ukraine in the statement. In addition, the Americans want to avoid describing Russia's full-scale war in Ukraine as an "illegal" invasion.
This is not the first time that the US has blocked tough language in G7 statements on Ukraine amid Trump's desire to persuade Vladimir Putin to engage in peace talks.
