The United States and Iran are one step away from a peace agreement if they agree on control of the Strait of Hormuz, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said in interview CNBC.
Bessent noted that the United States and Iran are in talks to restore passage for commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We are in talks with the Iranians. There is a possibility that we could reach an agreement today or tomorrow to open the strait and move towards a more normalized position in this conflict," says Bessent.
The finance minister said the agreement would allow freedom of movement in the strait, subject to an answer on whether Iran would be allowed to charge for the passage of ships.
"Although the situation there is still a bit risky over the last few days, we have seen quite a few ships coming out even now," he said.
Iran has lowered its demands regarding Hormuz
Iran wants to control incoming shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and be able to control outgoing traffic. For the latter, with the ability to intervene if necessary, according to a temporary plan from Oman.

The exit route will run between Iran and Oman. And permission to leave will be granted through Oman after notifying Iran, the source said.
"Tehran is unlikely to change its position," the source added. And noted that Iran has already demonstrated flexibility and does not demand complete control over traffic in both directions in the strait.
