Two B-52N strategic bombers of the US Air Force have arrived in Romania and will make flights from the country's territory for the first time. This was reported by the Joint Command of the NATO Air Force.
According to the report, two bombers of the US Air Force arrived at the Romanian Mihail Kogalnicanu Air Base the day before.
During their deployment, the B-52H will operate from an air base in Romania near the Black Sea coast and integrate with NATO members and other international partners to synchronize security capabilities and commitments in the US European Command area of responsibility.
This is the first time that American strategic bombers fly from Romania, the command noted.
The message also states that during the flight, the American bombers were intercepted by two Russian planes over the Barents Sea in international airspace.
At the same time, the planes did not change their course due to the interception and continued their flight as planned.
Last week, Finnish and Swedish fighter jets intercepted two Russian warplanes over the Baltic Sea.
It will be recalled that in June, Sweden recorded a violation of its airspace by a Russian Su-24 bomber for the first time since it became a full member of NATO.
