Heavy snowfall paralyzes airport in Poland: flights canceled and delayed

The airport in Gdansk, Poland, has experienced serious disruptions due to heavy snowfall: some flights have been canceled and others are delayed. Forecasters have declared a level II danger for the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The publication reports this RMF24.

It is noted that heavy precipitation and gusts of wind caused disruptions in the work of Lech Walesa Airport. A total of 14 flights were canceled or redirected, as the crews of some aircraft were unable to land due to the large amount of snow. Also, planes to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Warsaw did not take off from Gdansk Airport.

"Our services are intensively clearing snow at the airport. The weather is currently favorable, there is no precipitation, but the forecast is not optimistic. Further disruptions are possible. We ask passengers to monitor the status of their flights and contact their airlines," — airport spokeswoman Agnieszka Mykhaylov said.

At the same time, forecasters predict that heavy precipitation could lead to an increase in snow cover by 20-30 cm in some areas, and locally up to 50 cm. In addition, a warning is in effect for strong winds, which could cause wind showers and blizzards.

As reported, the storm "Goretti" covered half of Europe, bringing squalls, heavy rain, snowfall and ice. In particular, in Germany and France, many trains and flights at airports were canceled. Schools were also temporarily closed in the countries, and people were asked not to leave their homes. At least ten people died during the week.
