US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that any negotiations to end Russia's war against Ukraine will require compromises. According to him, concessions are needed from both sides. This is reported by The Guardian.
"The only way to end this war is through a process of negotiation, and negotiations — whether in business, trade, or geopolitics — involve both sides giving something away, both sides making concessions," - he said.
The US Secretary of State did not specify what exactly the concessions consist of.
"This should be a subject of negotiations, but general statements that could become a reason for one of the parties to refuse to participate will not contribute to this process," — Rubio added.
He also commented on the statement by G7 ministers supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity. Rubio noted that this "is not a change in public policy" for the United States, as "I have never heard President Trump say that Russia has the right to take over all of Ukraine and do whatever it wants there."
At the same time, he emphasized that there is no military solution to the war, since neither Russia nor Ukraine can achieve their "maximalist goals."
