More than 10 North Korean soldiers have arrived on the territory of Russia to participate in its war against Ukraine. At the same time, a "significant number" is located in the frontline areas, including the Kursk region. This was stated by the representative of the Ministry of Defense of South Korea, Jeong Ha Gye, reports Reuters.
"We understand that there are currently more than 10 North Korean servicemen in Russia, and a significant number of them have moved to the frontline areas, including Kursk." - Jeong Ha Gye said at the briefing with reference to the intelligence agencies.
However, when asked whether the North Koreans had participated in hostilities, Jeong said he had no information. He also failed to confirm South Korean media reports, citing an unnamed government official, that about 40 North Korean soldiers had died on the battlefield.
These statements came hours after Pentagon spokesman Major General Patrick Ryder said there were at least 10 North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region, near the border with Ukraine, but could not confirm reports that they were participating in combat operations
The representative of the Pentagon emphasized that a lot depends only on how the Russian Federation decides to use this North Korean contingent, and "how well they are integrated, what combat experience they have."
The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine also stated that about 12 North Korean servicemen, including 500 officers and three generals, are already in Russia and undergoing training at five military bases.
