The nationalized Domodedovo airport is on the verge of bankruptcy. This was stated by the new head of Domodedovo, Andrey Ivanov, write The Moscow Times.
Domodedovo's total debt has reached 70 billion rubles, of which 34 billion are in rubles and 450 million in dollars. In 2025, interest payments will amount to 8 billion rubles.
So, meetings are currently taking place with creditors on debt restructuring issues. And the government has allowed tax arrears to be used to pay salaries.
"The debt arose due to a drop in passenger traffic and revenue, an increase in losses, despite which costs were not reduced and the efficiency of operating activities was not increased," – explained Ivanov.
In 2023, the airport's passenger traffic was almost 20 million people, but in 2024 the figure dropped to 15,5 million. This year it may drop by another 2 million, Ivanov noted. Currently, Domodedovo's passenger traffic is at least half of its potential.
The top manager also reported a consistent decline in the airport's revenue: in 2023 it amounted to 34 billion rubles, in 2024 - 31 billion, and this year it will fall to 30 billion.
The loss in 2023 reached almost 7 billion rubles, in 2024 it was 7,2 billion, and this year it will grow to 10 billion. Another approximately 650 million rubles are current accounts payable of the group's enterprises and approximately the same amount are salary debts, Ivanov noted.
The main assets of Domodedovo International Airport belonged to DME Holding LLC. The Russian Prosecutor General's Office accused the key beneficiaries – Dmitry Kamenshchik and Valery Kogan – of taking profits abroad, being residents of other countries. By court decision, Domodedovo was nationalized.
