Rutte confirmed Ukraine's invitation to NATO summit in The Hague

Ukraine's participation program will be announced in due course.

Ukraine has been officially invited to participate in the NATO summit, which will be held on June 24-25 in The Hague, the Netherlands. This was announced by the Organization's Secretary General, Mark Rutte, at press conference in Brussels before the meeting of defense ministers of the Alliance member countries.

"I have invited Ukraine to the summit. We will publish the program with more details as soon as possible," — Rutte said.

He added that Ukraine's participation program will be announced in due course.

Separately, Rutte said that work is underway on the final communiqué of the NATO summit in The Hague.

According to him, the summit will focus on several issues. One of the topics is the need for a large increase in defense spending in member countries.

"And of course, Ukraine will be on the agenda. We will discuss it at the summit. There is no doubt about that," Rutte assured.

He also commented on the claim that at the upcoming Alliance summit in The Hague there will be no progress on Ukraine's desire to join NATO, and there will be no commitment from the Allies to a broad package of support for Ukraine, as was the case at last year's summit in Washington.

“The decision presented to Ukrainians in Washington about Ukraine’s irreversible path to NATO is still valid today, there are no changes… But Ukraine was never promised that potential NATO membership would be part of a peace agreement or ceasefire agreement,” — Rutte said.

He noted that the decision on Ukraine's irreversible path to NATO is a long-term commitment.

As Rutte noted, in the first three months of 2025, the allies pledged to allocate 20 billion euros for military support for Ukraine. And even more funds will be allocated. During the entire year of 2024, 50 billion euros were allocated.

The NATO Secretary General added that another meeting in the Ramstein format will be held today, and he is confident that new commitments to support Ukraine will be announced.

According to Rutte, everyone is united, including the US, Canada and all European allies.

"But we must make sure that Ukraine can withstand the struggle and that we can end this terrible conflict, this aggressive war of Russia against Ukraine, with a lasting and lasting conclusion," — Rutte said.

He also said that tomorrow, June 5, a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council at the level of defense ministers will take place.
