US President Donald Trump's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said that the issue of Ukraine joining NATO is not under consideration. This is reported by CNN.
"This is not discussed," Trump's advisor stated categorically. According to him, the United States will not seek Ukraine's accession to NATO.
Waltz said the United States will support the security guarantees for Ukraine from the United Kingdom and France. He expects Europe, including France and the United Kingdom, to take more active steps in support of Ukraine.
"We are absolutely committed to NATO as a whole, to our Article Five agreements with other NATO countries, but security guarantees for Ukraine are a different story," – continued Waltz.
The politician also mentioned the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on rare earth metals that is being prepared. He expressed hope that the agreement will be concluded.
The Trump adviser's comment came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday stated that he was willing to resign in exchange for membership to NATO.
