Putin will no longer achieve his goals in Ukraine - NATO Secretary General

"Putin has lost Ukraine forever," Stoltenberg said

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that the Russian Federation will not be able to achieve its goals in Ukraine despite its great efforts. He said this in an interview with DPA, reports DW.

According to him, with a full-scale invasion, the Russian president sought to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO and the European Union, but after two years of war, Ukraine is "closer to NATO and the EU than ever."

"Putin has lost Ukraine forever" Stoltenberg said, noting that this is a major strategic defeat for Russia, while Ukraine will eventually achieve its goal of joining NATO.

The NATO Secretary General added that the Russian Federation has to pay a huge price for the war against Ukraine, because Moscow, he pointed out, has already lost hundreds of planes, thousands of tanks and 300 soldiers.

Stoltenberg stated that due to the war inflation in Russia increased and the standard of living decreased, it is now more politically isolated than before, but all this did not change the course of the Kremlin.

"We have no signs that Putin will change his goals and his policies. He will continue to try to occupy more territory," - he said.

The NATO Secretary General refrained from commenting on Ukraine's plans to conduct additional mobilization into the army, but noted that no one understands the need for the military better than the Ukrainians themselves.

"The Ukrainians have shown that they are capable of defending themselves, fighting back, especially when they receive weapons from Germany and many other NATO countries," - Stoltenberg emphasized.

He also called for a strong continuation of support for Ukraine and to explore the possibility of providing Kyiv with more defense equipment by amending existing agreements with third countries.

"In general, we need to increase our production in order to better help Ukraine and better protect ourselves," - summed up the Secretary General of NATO.
